Awe " an experience of such perceptual vastness you literally have to reconfigure your mental models of the world to assimilate it" ~ Jason Silva
Incidences of awe create and increase feelings of empathy, gratitude and wellbeing. I have been awe struck by the miracle of birth. The wonder of a child's imagination and the beauty of the natural world. These experiences left me to ponder the complexities of life and the nature of the universe.
In these moments we are transported into the vastness of the universal mind. Where we can glimpse beyond what our cultural narrative has led us to believe and experience.
These glimpses push us forward, propel us into the depths of evolution. An evolution that will be observed on Earth by the children of our children's children.
Cosmologist Brian Swimme describes this time as the most destructive era in 65 million years of the planets history. Environmental devastation and mass extinction of plant and animal species as an example. But... Where there is death there is always birth.
Through this destructive era we will give rise to creativity and the rebirthing of the new human, society and a new era.
On some level we all have a sense of hopelessness and a feeling of loss and vulnerability. An intuition that the world we know is coming to an end. There is also a sense of hope that what is being birthed is part of our evolutionary make up. A new beginning.
Cultivation of awe for spiritual growth and evolution sounds like a great plan to me and it comes naturally for human beings if we are open to it.
Two ways I cultivate awe are: 1~ Through Mama Nature.
I always experience it through a direct connection. Touch, taste and feel.
I have felt it staring at the clouds, their shape-shifting visuals remind me of the impermanence of reality.
I have felt it walking through bushland engaging in the smells and sounds that envelop me in that moment. Being mindful and present.
I have felt it while looking up at the stars. The vastness of the universe will do that.
2~ Through gathering
Gathering reminds me we are in the same boat.
We all long for connection and seek community.
Circles, festivals and conscious gatherings amplify my feelings of awe.
The central theme. Oneness. It is this feeling of awe that moves me to do what I do, and ignites my passion to share with others.
I urge you to find awe-inspiring moments everyday, whatever that looks like for you!
